Beginning in April 2020, Barbara Roots will be the new tutor for this Saturday class.  Barbara has over 35 years sewing experience and teaches dressmaking courses for Kent Adult Education.

You have the option of bringing your own machine to learn on or you can learn on one of our new Janome sewing machines.  Please let us know if you intend to bring your own and make sure before class that it is in full working order.

This class is suitable for complete beginners or those in need of a refresher or a bit of confidence.  A little knowledge goes a long way!  You will be learning about tension – of both the top and bottom threads.  You will learn important information about thread types, needle types and sizes and when to use them.  You’ll also learn about basic machine maintenance.

You’ll practice sewing on stretch fabric, fine fabrics, and fabrics which require pattern matching.  You’ll make a sample of a concealed zip, practice making buttonholes and more!

From here you could move into patchwork & quilting or clothesmaking with a lot more understanding and confidence.

Get that machine out of the box at last!  A very relaxed class.  Please bring a lunch with you or pop out for a sandwich.

10.30 – 3.00pm  £50
