A new English Paper Piecing (EPP) for you in the shape of spheres!

In this class you will be working with one shape (a pentagon) to create your very own sphere – which can be made into so many things for example a christmas bauble, a lavender scented pomander, a baby ball with a bell/crinkle foil or even a cat toy, a set of play balls, fill with rice to make sewing weights – or join 2 halves inside eachother to make a trinket bowl! you have options! You will have the option to do any of these in class – each one is a slightly different size and can be taylor-made to suit your needs.

You will need to think of your colour scheme ahead of class and source your fabrics – these spheres are great scraps-busters (the largest size paper piece only requires a minimum of a 4” x 4” piece of fabric per pentagon) – but you can choose some fat quarters which will enable you to make sets of spheres that match (if you were making Christmas baubles for example) If you want to achieve a “patchwork” look you will need a minimum of 9 different prints/colours and a maximum of 12 – but you can use just one print and fussy cut the design to achieve a more uniform look.

You will need to bring with you:

  • Your fabrics/scraps
  • Small scissors (for snipping threads)
  • A basic needle and thread (for stitch basting)
  • A good quality polyester thread for stitching your shapes together
  • Any equipment you would normally use for EPP if it’s a hobby you already do.

You will be given papers to make a sphere and you will be able to try out some fine thread, needles and glue pens. If you like what you try then most can be purchased on the day (while stocks last)

Materials you will need to purchase on the day:

  • wadding/stuffing
  • Lavender & muslin for pomanders (optional)
  • Bell/Mylar for baby balls and cat toys (optional)
  • Cat nip for pet toy (optional)

10am – 3.30/4pm    £30 per person  Friday 26th October
